She was standing in a mass of people, fidgety and anxious. She wasn’t sure if she was safe. She noticed something glint off her orange and silver earrings, quickly turning around towards the dark corner of the wall. That’s when she saw it. It had been watching her in her sleep. She remembered the tickling of it’s deep breath against her cold neck. A sudden rush of fear shot through her, igniting her legs to run for her life. She quickly realized it would not help. She wasn’t sure whether she should go home or stay in public. It was getting dark and the streets were starting to clear out. Soon she would be alone, exposed to both it and the many other dangers of the eery night. She decided to run home, catching a cab. All the while she had the itching feeling something was with her, watching. She finally got to her apartment, rushing up and locking the door behind her. She flicked on the lights, the comfortable feeling of being home slightly outweighing the feeling of utter terror. She calmed down and got into bed, thinking it might be gone. Maybe it found someone else. Maybe, maybe she was safe for a night. Pulling up the covers over her shivering body, she drifted to sleep. She awoke to a groan. She felt as if it was coming from outside. That is , until she saw the long decaying finger make it’s way over her covers. she was frozen in terror, this was the end, she thought. The finger slowly came with it a hand, decaying and long as well. She was too scared to look down, dreading seeing what kind of face would accompany such a grotesque hand. She still heard the groans, coming from under her bed. Just what every child feared. The monster under the bed. Then she felt the breath, oh the terrible breath. It fell all over her, sending her shivers. It was right behind her. It was grinning. It was groaning. They called him the Rake.
